PINKGUY Gallery is pleased to present Zodiac, a solo exhibition by Malaysian artist Lui Cheng Thak, featuring a complete body of work centred on the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac. This exhibition brings together a cohesive series of paintings that explore cultural symbolism through a lens of quiet introspection and painterly restraint.
Rather than depicting the zodiac as folklore or narrative imagery, Lui Cheng Thak approaches each animal as a psychological and emotional archetype. Rendered in contemplative stillness, the works invite sustained viewing, revealing layers of meaning through texture, composition, and subdued tonal relationships. Circular forms and atmospheric fields recur throughout the series, referencing cycles of time, cosmology, and the enduring nature of personal identity.
For collectors, Zodiac represents a rare, unified series—each painting able to stand independently, while collectively forming a complete conceptual cycle. The works offer both visual clarity and symbolic depth, making them particularly suited for long-term collections that value narrative continuity and emotional resonance over trend-driven aesthetics.
Lui Cheng Thak’s practice is distinguished by its sensitivity to silence, memory, and the unseen. In Zodiac, these qualities converge into a body of work that reflects not only cultural inheritance, but universal human experience. The exhibition underscores the artist’s continued commitment to contemplative painting and affirms his position within a lineage of artists who engage tradition with contemporary relevance.
